Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before booking at Renew Skincare & Aesthetics Clinic, nurse-led by Yvonne McNamara in Gort, Co. Galway.
Your First Consultation
What happens at a first consultation?
Your first consultation is a private, unhurried conversation with Yvonne. We discuss your skin concerns, medical history, lifestyle, and what you'd like to achieve. Yvonne will assess your skin, explain which treatments may be suitable, and give you an honest recommendation - there is no pressure to proceed on the day. Many patients find the consultation itself reassuring and informative.
Do I need to prepare anything before my consultation?
No special preparation is needed. Come with a clean face if possible, and bring a list of any medications or supplements you take. If you have had previous aesthetic treatments elsewhere, it's helpful to mention these. Most importantly, come with your questions - no question is too small.
Is the consultation free?
Please contact us directly for current consultation arrangements. We want every patient to feel informed and comfortable before committing to any treatment.
Downtime & Recovery
How much downtime should I expect?
This varies by treatment. Most injectable treatments (anti-wrinkle, Profhilo, skin boosters) involve minimal downtime - some mild redness, swelling or bruising at injection sites that typically settles within 24–48 hours. Treatments such as microneedling or PRP may involve 2–5 days of redness and skin sensitivity. Yvonne will give you specific aftercare guidance for your treatment at your appointment.
Can I go back to work the same day?
For most injectable treatments, yes. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and direct sun exposure for 24 hours post-treatment. For more intensive treatments, you may prefer to plan a day or two of recovery time.
Sensitive, Rosacea & Menopausal Skin
I have Rosacea - are treatments safe for me?
Many treatments are suitable for rosacea-prone skin, and some - such as Profhilo, Microneedling and certain skin boosters - can actually benefit reactive skin by improving the skin barrier. Yvonne has extensive experience treating sensitive and rosacea-prone patients and will always tailor the approach to your skin. A thorough consultation is essential before any treatment.
I'm going through menopause - what treatments are most relevant?
Menopausal skin changes - dryness, thinning, loss of elasticity, increased sensitivity - respond very well to treatments such as Profhilo, skin boosters, and targeted skincare. Yvonne takes a holistic approach and can help you build a plan that addresses the specific changes you're experiencing. We also offer pregnancy-safe and oncology-safe treatment options where relevant.
My skin is very sensitive. Can I still have treatment?
Sensitive skin is not a barrier to treatment - it simply means the approach needs to be carefully chosen and adapted. Yvonne will assess your skin thoroughly and recommend treatments that are appropriate for your skin type and concerns.
Sessions & Results
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the treatment and your individual skin. As a guide:
- Profhilo: 2 sessions, 4 weeks apart, then maintenance every 6 months
- Anti-wrinkle injections: Single session, reviewed at 2 weeks, repeated every 3–4 months
- Skin boosters: Typically 2–3 sessions initially, then maintenance
- PRP: 3 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart, then annual maintenance
- Microneedling: 3–6 sessions depending on concern
Yvonne will give you a clear treatment plan at your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.
When will I see results?
Some treatments show immediate results; others work progressively over weeks. Anti-wrinkle injections typically take 7–14 days to take full effect. Profhilo and skin boosters show progressive improvement over 4–8 weeks. PRP results build over 3–6 months. Yvonne will set realistic expectations at your consultation.
Cancellations & Appointments
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. This allows us to offer the slot to another patient. Late cancellations or no-shows are subject to a late cancellation fee. If you are unwell on the day of your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible - we will always do our best to accommodate you.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book via our online booking system or by contacting us directly. We recommend booking a consultation first if you are new to the clinic or considering a new treatment.
